Dick Winters passed away on Jan 2. I never read into Easy Company so I only know what was shown on the HBO series. I guess there are only a few men left that served with his and the other outfits of WWII. We should all be so worthy.

Sad to hear this. Maybe now he will get the medal of honor although he should already have it.

His characterization in the Band of Brothers series stood tall.
Yet by his own modesty, the man himself, stood taller still.
The soldiers of WW2 are leaving us, too fast, and too quietly.
Let Us Always Remember Them.

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.

That was just what Dick Winters wanted, to just fade away. He asked that word of his death NOT be released until after his funeral.

God bless Dick Winters and all who have and are serving.

I was sad to hear of the loss of this great American Hero, and true gentleman.
The world would be a better place with more men like him.

As one of his troopers said, " I saw a lot of officers I wouldn't follow to the mess tent, I'd follow Winters to **** and smile while doing it."

While he wasn't awarded the Medal of honor , he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest commendation available for he and his men's efforts to knock out a Nazi gun emplacement on D day. I believe several of the soldiers from the engagement that day received commendations.
