7 % tree. We have several large maples that are out in the open that will test over 5% every year. Lots of sunlight, no competition=sweet sap.:thumbsup:

What do you call the "sugar content tester" and where do you get it? I collected and boiled once a handful of years ago and after spending last saturday at a friends house boiling, I have gotten the itch again and thinking about doing something next year just for fun.

It's called a refractometer. It uses a prism to measure solids in Brix scale (sugar, in this case) in a liquid.
