Camera/Picture Taking Pro\'s Advice

When it comes to cameras... I'm one of those point and shoot guys... (well maybe a hair better than that... but not by much.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif)

I have the Olympus E100-rs and want to put a 1.5 x telephoto lens in series with the 10x optical... is this compatible? Will this upset my autofocus? Will my image stabilizer system still function correctly? Does this throw my white balance off? On nightime shots, does this reduce my light? etc. etc. etc.

Please tell me the pro's and con's of this, all you pro's and con's... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Thanks.../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: Camera/Picture Taking Pro\'s Advice

Hi John, I have the C2100 which is similar to your camera. A 1.5x telephoto lens will work, however, it will probably cause severe Olympus B-300 1.7x telephoto lens (actually made for a video camera) which screws onto the end of the E100rs lens (using an adapter ring). The problem is the scarcity of the B-300. Occasionally, they are available at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query="olympus+B-300">eBay</A>.

No, but since you will be far away (that's why you want the extra telephoto capability, right /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif) you will be focusing at infinity anyway.

<font color=blue>Will my image stabilizer system still function correctly?</font color=blue>
Yes, but I set the ASA speed to 400 anyway.

<font color=blue>Does this throw my white balance off? On nightime shots, does this reduce my light?</font color=blue>
You have now reached the depth of my knowledge. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

See attached examples of a picture taken with no zoom (top) and with the B-300 (bottom). These pictures were taken at 1/5 sec and 1/30 sec exposure time, respectively.

Thanks Guys... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I've been to all these sites in the past...(they are on my favorites list.. but that doesn't mean nothing!)...

But the one site I didn't realize how massive it was until Mark mentioned it again... <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.dpreview.com/>http://www.dpreview.com/</A>

In the past, I had only looked at the "reviews section", never the forums... something like 320,000 posts alone for just one Olympus forum and they have a few.../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

TBN is the premier tractor site now... but mark my words... a couple more years and TBN will be just like that...! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

...and Mike, thanks for the heads up on the Olympus lens... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
