Nice looking firewood. No veneer quality log in that tree.

Omg, I just thought we had some big oak trees here, some of them were checked for age at 125 Plus years?
Okay, Legal disclaimer: Old but not senile, definitely do not have the answer to everything!

That's one of the biggest oak trees around here. A logger told me it would be about 500 years old.

That tree doesn't look anywhere near 10' across. Maybe 10' around is what you meant?

We were down south last summer and saw lots of the large live oaks. They were impressively fat at the base. But I don't see much in the way of veneer in them as the branches are all twisty and such.

    Agreed.

Bob77064: can you take any pictures of that tree with something to reference its size? Someone standing next to it perhaps?

Even if that was veneer quality (its not) I dont think the veneer lathe would be able to accept a 10' diameter log. However there is more than one type of veneer.
