\'She was fighting to the death\'

“Pfc. Jessica Lynch, rescued Tuesday from an Iraqi hospital, fought fiercely and shot several enemy soldiers after Iraqi forces ambushed the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance company, firing her weapon until she ran out of ammunition, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

Lynch, a 19-year-old supply clerk, continued firing at the Iraqis even after she sustained multiple gunshot wounds and watched several other soldiers in her unit die around her in fighting 11 days ago…”

Saving Private Lynch…the rest of the story…

Re: \'She was fighting to the death\'

Same old (but never tired) story--in American anything is possible. She and her family will benefit greatly from all of this, though I'm sure they'd have preferred to never have to go through it in the first place. She's a hero, as are the guys/gals who rescued her. A book waiting to be written; a movie waiting to be made.

Following account is from today's NY Daily News....

"...Belying her country-girl smile and petite 5-foot-5 frame, Lynch put up a Rambo-worthy fight when her unit, the Army's 507th Ordnance Maintenance Co., came under attack, according to a new report.

Lynch opened fire on the Iraqi assailants, picking them off one by one until she ran out of ammunition, according to today's Washington Post.

She continued shooting - even after she was shot and stabbed and her unit members were killed all around her.

"She was fighting to the death," a U.S. official told The Post. "She did not want to be taken alive."

Yesterday, when Lynch was plucked from ****** Hospital, Special Forces troops found a soldier in pain.

Her broken bones are a sure sign of torture, said Amy Waters Yarsinske, an ex-Navy intelligence officer and an expert on POW treatment.

"It's awfully hard to break both legs and an arm in a truck accident," Yarsinske said...."

Forget about this gal being a kindergarten teacher /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif....she seems to have inherent abilities to make a rewarding career as a Special Ops soldier herself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Yep.....I'm waiting for this made for TV movie to come out in about 6-9 months...just in time for November sweeps. It'll do wonders for the military recruiters.

What even makes this story sweeter,is she is from a very common family, not rich by monetary value, but a whole lotta love in her family/friends and neighbors and she went to the service to better herself, not asking for a free ride in life, just a plain ordinary girl, but then again maybe a not so very ordinary girl after all.

Re: \'She was fighting to the death\'

Latest reports from her family is that she was not shot, was not stabbed. makes you wonder what the media does to confirm a story before they disseminate it as fact. If she sustained the broken bones after being taken it seems like they beat her pretty severely. My best to her, her rescuers AND to the Iraqi lawyer who risked his life as well as the life of his wife and daughter to help J Lynch. Reports are that the regime showed up at his house looking for him but he his wife and his daughter had already been taken into protective custody by coalition forces and have been granted refugee status.
