Hello All, my dad used to qoute the one below to me a lot as a young man
ans I only found out recently it was from Jimmy Durante.

I always thought that went Fair to "Middlin" as in inbetween.

This is actually a phrase used in the old southern cotton mills. When grading bales of cotton to determine which cloth would be made from it, One of the grades was called "fair to Middlin". It was a lower grade used mostly for cheap denim.
