Sturm Ruger LCR

Would appreciate input from anyone with first hand experience, either owning or having shot, the LCR. An acquaintance is offering one in .357 that he bought a year ago. It is NIB and he wants what he paid then...460 which includes sales tax. Been looking to acquire 2-3 extra weapons for cc, and this particular item seems like it should be on my list. Please no arguments for pistols over revolvers....I own pistols, shoot them, and love many of them, but when my life is on the line I personally choose the revolver for carry. That said, I have an aversion to what I think are horrendous handling characteristics of the Airweight, a Detective model (if you can find one) costs way way too much, and while I have several old (ok, late 80s) Taurus snub-nose models, I have been advised by several friends in the firearms business that Taurus quality has gone down the past few years...disappointing news to me, as my Model 85CH is a favorite. I intend to look at the SP101 w/ 2-5/8" barrel as well, but this just kind of popped up, and I'm seriously considering taking it. Thanks for any information.

Not very accurate after 12to 15 feet and you will feel the recoil.PS Sturm just said they sold 1 million guns this year and no longer taking orders. Wow.

I know....as I said I have friends in the industry. That's part of my interest...no shop in my area/region has this in stock now, nor are they likely to.

Have you looked at the Judge. It fires 45s or 410 rounds. I have one and love it. I goes with me every where.

Trigger on the LCR is better than a J frame Smith or a Taurus no doubt.
I don't know that I would enjoy or could really control full bore .357's in a LCR, but the Speer 135gr plus p short barrell load .38 ain't nothing to sneeze at and would be a very effective / shootable load in one.

I'd say go for it, easy for me to spend your money

I wish I could sell stuff like that. I see it on CL all the time--"I bought this 5 years ago and now it won't start. I just want my money back."

I haven't heard anything bad about the LCR other than due to size and weight.

Thanks, but I'm passing on Taurus at this time due to input from my friends in the firearms business. If not, I'd be looking at a snub nosed Taurus .38.

There are a couple of TBN members who own the LCR, I think Roy Jackson has one.

I own several Rugers, but have gotten use to the J Frame S&W after shooting them so many years. Have never read where an LCR owner didn't like it.

I have no intention of carrying .357 rounds in it and would be just as happy to look at a .38. This is just what happens to be available. Local pricing, when they have them, is 459.....add sales tax and we're near 490. And price becomes relative when you can't find them....Thanks for the input on the trigger. Trigger, and general handling on my older Taurus 85CH is better than any Smith snub I've ever fired. Loved many of the old Smiths, but what they got wrong, they got real wrong. Older Model 14-4 still remains one of my two all time favorite revolvers.

Seems fair to me...usually any good firearm will be worth it's original new selling price down the road. Size and weight are what attracts me. At home I can defend the fortress without regard to size and weight, but in the field one's protection has to be reasonably portable enough so that one is never deterred from carrying it.
