I used to know several people who commuted 80 miles a day, one way, into Dallas. Fortunately, I never had to do that. The last 11 years before I retired, it was about 16 miles one way and the 5 years before that was 20 miles one way.

About 3 miles to the local lawn mower shop/loafing spot, on the days I go in (to loaf).

30 miles if I go to the farm.

Yeah, I used to drive from about Bakersfield to Essex Jct for a few weeks during the summer. Nice commute. I grew up in Underhill and Essex Center so I'm familiar with what the traffic was like 30 years ago. Sometimes I'd get behind 3 or 4 cars and consider it a traffic jam. I've 73 acres bordering the west side of Rt 108 and the south Bakersfield line.

Mines not bad, 41 miles round trip and over 30 of it is interstate. The first 20 I have one stop sign, the last 1/2 mile there are 4 red lights. Not bad at all.

Mine was 100 miles round trip on the dc beltway and then 270. Wow it sucked. Could take 2 hours one way sometimes. After working 10-12 hours it was rough. Moved 8 years ago and now it's 15 miles and a straight highway shot. My life improved drastically. I actually have time to do

2.8 miles, 11 redlights or stop signs and an average of 12-15 minutes. Sometime this year I hope to move to some rural property 12.5 miles from work but I think the commute time will stay about the same with only 3 redlights to contend with.

I was commuting two hours per day - average, plus what driving I did during the day. For the last year - the commute to work is about 12 seconds....down the stairs to my office!! I did almost wreck last month - slipped on a dog toy on the stairs. Was able to power slide into the landing and regained control! Almost had to give myself a ticket for careless driving .

Until I retired I drove 55 miles one way, then I would get in a truck and drive 714 miles from Minneapolis to Wyoming, unload, then 714 miles back empty (custom semi-trailer, no back haul), lastly 55 miles home. 24 hours to make the entire turn and I would sometimes do it three times a week and even work Saturdays when asked.

My wife drives almost daily about 100 miles round trip to the gym (what a life style). I commute 12000 miles one way about every six weeks. While on site I drive 50 km (30 miles) round trip in bumper to bumper traffic every day except Sunday.
