Folk Singer Doc Watson died at age 89...

We'll miss this fine singer.

If anyone is into folk songs, an album I have and do recommend is "The Essential Doc Watson". His versions of "Tom Dooley" and "Saint James Hospital" are probably the closest you'll ever hear to the original versions from way back when...

Sorry to hear it. He was my favourite mucisian and I had the good luck to see him a couple of times. Both times I got to sit on the floor about 15' from him as he used to invite those who wanted to, to sit on the floor at the front.

He was a beautiful human being and an amazing guitar picker. It must have been very painful when his son Merle predeceased him in a tractor rollover accident. That happened just before a scheduled concert in Calgary. It was rescheduled for a year or so later and he carried on as cheerful and friendly as ever. A fine example of how to carry on.
