Lately I've been hearing my heartbeat when I lay down. Doctor has checked blood pressure and everything and say's he don't see anything wrong. I'm thinking I may have a blockage to my head. Anyone ever had this problem? Maybe just blocked ears, but if not I may not be around to tell him he was wrong.

Nope- not a problem. In a quiet enough environment (sound isolation room) it is possible to hear it. But I would tend to think that what you are actually hearing is the "wooshing" of blood through the arteries near your ears.

Although unnerving, I wouldn't worry about it. If it keeps you from sleeping, try having a small fan on low to create "white noise".

tglass,

I had that for almost a year progressively worsened, Glomus Tympanicum vs Glomus Jugulare. My PCP looked in the ear saw a reddening. Went to ENT, saw the same, had a CT and sure enough Glomus Tympanicum with a start of Glomus Jugulare (nasty one). Had surgery mine was supposed to have been 2 hrs but it lasted 4 hrs and 400 cc's of blood loss later out of surgery. Informed me that it had buried itself in bone and he had to dig around to get it all. Also said that these types of tumors are notoriously vascular - lots of blood during surgery. Had CT 6 mos later no sign of tumor and after surgery no heart beat hearing. I now have tininitus but I use back ground noise to reduce that. Surprisingly my ENT informed my wife & I that women are 4x more candidates for what I had and most often nothing can be found. I was a rarity as male to have this tumor. If you want you can PM me. Above all see an ENT doc - soon. The Glomus Jugulare is not nice.

That's the evidence your hearing is still great. I have tinnitus and will likely never hear my heartbeat again :(

This may be a simple cause, not a worrying one. Try checking out your earwax buildup. Next time you shower put soap in your ears (lather, not the bar ) and swish it around a bit. Then tilt your head under the shower head and swish the water in your ear until you feel it enter your inner ear canal (may take up to a minute+, depending on buildup), then immediately tilt your head to dump it out. Move on to the other ear. You will notice a distinct sound difference of the water rushing into your ear when the wax buildup clears up. Then try the lay down heartbeat test and see if it changes. I can normally hear internal stuff when my ear canal is clogged up.

I've had these same symptoms for years. I have pretty bad tinnitus and wear hearing aids to mask that....they really help me. The "pulsing sound" is quite annoying at times. Usually when you want to rest or after a nap for me. Never saw a doctor on this issue....maybe I should.

tglass,
Sounds like something I need to have checked out by an ear, nose and throat specialist. Thanks..

I have the same thing, I can almost feel it in my chest and neck. I have been under stress through trying to help my mother since her stroke, and have a lot of anxiety at night when I lay down, hard to sleep and so on. My bloodpressure goes up as well, last time it was 150/90 and they said I have a reason for it being high. I typically put on the history channel so I can sleep,it keeps my mind off things.
