For some reason this year the black berry vines are takeing over and spreading like wildfire.
What is the best tried and proven spray to use.
Will mowing them early in the year kill them off ?
Thank's

One quart of Grazon P+D + one pint of Remedy will melt them away, along with most other species of brushy weeds. If you're just spot-spraying, use 1% P+D + 1/2% Remedy.

Alternatively, Surmount works well, but is a little pricey.

Both the Grazon and the Surmount will have some residual soil activity, so keep that in mind if you use them around desirable trees or if you have desirable broadleaf forage plants, such as clovers, etc.

Don't mow them first - you want as much leaf surface as possible. If they've already been mowed this year, wait until next year.

Garlon 4, Element 4 are brand names for Triclopyr butoxyethyl ester which works fantastic. Garlon 3A, Element 3A also work and depending upon your application and site may be better. There are a variety of brand names that combine triclopyr with 2,4-d (Crossbow is a brand name) that are labeled as brush/blackberry killer that do work but are not nearly as effective as straight triclopyr. (You may need an applicators license for straight triclopyr in some areas.) Glyphosate with a good surfactant is effective as well, just not quite as good and is better applied late in the season just before fall but will severely stunt even in the dead of summer.

Of course I don't know if you are talking native blackberry or the Himalayan Blackberry or Evergreen Blackberry. Native is much easier to eradicate than the invasive Himalayan which for us is now on the invasive plant list.

I have had good luck with roundup glysphoate or its substitute, Pronto Big n Tuff, available at Tractor supply.
Says 1% solutionbut I usually double it.

Just keep them mowed off and you won't have to get poison on you and you will be rid of the vines as well. done it many times, it works.
