its now 3 weeks since the original incident and the truck is running just fine. its maintaining coolant level. must have put a few hundred miles on since. maybe it just didn't care for hauling fresh manure.

With a load on the truck it will run hotter. I would also check all the hoses real good. Get your hands on them and bend/twist them and look real close for a crack.
