Yep, collards and blackeyed peas are a must pretty much across the south. Had ours with some country (virgina cured) ham, as usual.

Our tradition here in Texas has always been Blackeyed Peas & Cornbread. My wife (1st Generation Italian-American) has always had Lentil soup and Cabbage for the New Year. Being you can never have too much luck.........we do both.

When I was in the US Navy and stationed in Phila, I had lots of folks from New Jersey who had corned beef and cabbage on New Year's Day. I also seem to remember a Polish dish of potatoes, cabbage, and turnips with kielbasa. It's all good!:D
