Hmmm. Rare indeed. I recall reading an article where a similar object was surgically removed from a man, ostensibly his twin brother.

Great aunt of mine had the same thing, but was never removed. When Aunt Silvo died (in her 80s) she looked like she was pregnant.
There was a story told me that a couple of years before she died there was a lady in church who was expecting her second child and she was beginning to show. I guess somewhere around that time the youngest child had asked about her "bump" and they had explained it to him.
Apparently the next Sunday after this explanation as he was being carried into church he saw my aunt he proclaimed loudly, "LOOK MAMA, MISS SILVO IS HAVING A BABY JUST LIKE YOU."
