Help! Need to find ring & pinion.

I'm trying to help my brother out. He has a 1990 dodge diesel 3/4 ton 4-wheeldrive. It has an original Dana rear-end, 307 gear ratio, 10 bolt cover, BM#605-311-1. From what he has been told, Dodge only used this rear-end for two years to try to improve mileage. He and I have called all salvage/junk yards in our areas. He just needs the ring & pinion, but is willing to buy the complete axle housing if he has to. Only other option is to get another rear-end with a different gear ratio and eliminate the 4-wheeldrive. Any suggestions or, leads would really be appreciated.

You might try http://www.4wheelparts.com/. They have a large selection of gears, especially for Dana axles, and seem to have prices as good as anyone. You probably don't want to install used gears in an axle. Once the ring and pinion are broken in together it is next to impossible to install them in another axle and get them to mesh properly. Improper installation will make the gears noisy and will drastically reduce their lifespan. Hope this helps.
