Well, after cleaning the carb, new plug, and finding the right fittings for the fuel line, for the first time in 15-20 years, she was brought back to life. A couple of carb adjustments later and she's purring like a kitten. Can't wait to try her in the water(hopefully this year before the snow flies). Thanks to all that responded.

I have the same motor exactly and trying to find out if it is water or air cooled. From what I can tell you are getting different answers to your question. I'm trying to find out where the water port is that streams out if it is water cooled. Usually there is a stream of water that comes out to tell you that the impeller is working. Did you ever find a manuel for it? If so where? Anyone else have feed back on this motor. I know it's been a long time since this guy logged on and is probably not checking this discussion anymore.

Make sure you're using the right oil. Found this on a boating forum. Someone was inquiring about a motor similar to yours.

"Model # K7514106A,
Serial # 1195553.
Type # XTV 50475A

1976 7.5 Clinton. The X is a K. 32:1 gas/oil, use 2 cycle chainsaw oil. Parts are going to be a problem. Try www.discountmarineparts.com."

A modern boat shop may say they never saw one like it. I suggest drive this around to a rental yard or repair shop that is familiar with the tampers and ask ther oldest employee. A small-engine shop should be able to get parts. A carb overhaul kit and points/condenser set are about all there is to fix, aside from the spark plug.

If it's air cooled it will have fins on the head and cylinder, and a metal shroud covering the fins similar to a lawn mower engine.

Yep, agree--air cooled--even the starter (pull cord) is 'old lawn mower' type.
Found one at a yard sale 2 yrs ago and restoration was a snap as carb kits, pionts etc were nothing else but 2 stroke lawn mower parts.
Be sure to use ONLY gas mix with 2-stroke oil.

That engine brings back some memories. My uncle Gene bought one new back in the 60's along with a 14' aluminum boat, the first in the family to own a boat. I caught some fish from that boat myself, and about a year later my dad bought his boat; a 14' Loycraft with a Mark 55A Mercury. I saw one today at an "antique" boat show. Sure made me feel old.
