My Pony which is less than a year old will not go in the top 3 gears. Also sometimes it will not even go into gear without 4 or 5 tries when first starting up. has anyone else had this kind of problem? If there's an easy fix or some kind of adjustment I can make without too much trouble I might do this rather than take it in for service. Even though it's under warranty it's such a hassle. 426DMB

Agreed! I have an original Horse (92 model) and its still going strong. As for fixing your pony. Just stay after dealer.
Squeaky wheels get fixed. Or sometimes replaced /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Your variator drive system is either out of adjustment, or the center sheave on the variator pulley is hung up. Either will cause you to loose full speed range. I had the same system on my yard machines LT & hated it. This low-end belt & pulley speed control system is absolutely horrible. I was never able to achieve speeds 1,2,3 for any length of time. Refer to your manual or the MTD webside, the speed control rod can easily be adjusted to accommodate for some belt stretch.
G/luck

Thanks much! I'll take a look at those two things. If I can't figure it out I guess it'll be in the truck and off to the shop, but if I can avoid that I will. 426DMB
