I have a place i'm going to be sowing in grass that was recently dressed by a dozer. i saw an ad for some 5 year old hay for .50 per bale. Is there anything wrong with using that instead of straw to cover it?

Im not sure about hay, but I know you can get a lot of weeds from straw at times. I think I would go for it at $0.50/bale its steal/deal - You can always work on getting the weeds out once the grass it established..

You will get more weeds with hay, but a quick weed treatment will take care of it.

Thats what i was thinking. With straw at $5 a bale, it would probly be worth some weeds. I may try to check it out this weekend.
