Default mastitis in a goat

My neighbor has a female boar goat that has a nasty case of Mastitis. It looks like one of the kids bit her on the nipple and the scab sealed it shut. Now it's HUGE, hard as a rock and what I can get out of it is bloody. My wife and the vet said to wrap a warm moist towel around it and try to strip it out. I got out what I could but what's left is hard and not coming out. We also gave her a shot of Penicillin. She isn't eating very well and has a fever so I'm sure it's infected in there. Is there anything else any of you know of to do? I'm taking care of the neighbors animals for him right now while he is recovering from two weeks in the hospital. He's home now but still in bad shape.

The vet said to KEEP it stripped out but hand milking isn't working. Anyone know of a goat milker out there that would do it for not much money? She's got one of them double nipples on that side that will make a human pump about worthless.

She needs to be on penicillin twice/day, and you need to try to keep her milked. It's only gonna work by hand, if it's that bad, a pump probably won't do the job. There's also a product called Udder Comfort that will be a great help. If you're in dairy farm country, your local farm store should carry Udder Comfort, it's an herbal product, but it REALLY works. You rub it on twicw/day after stripping. If your local farm store doesn't have it, google it, you can order it on-line.
