TSCRA SPECIAL RANGER RECOVERS MORE THAN $80,000
OF STOLEN PROPERTY IN NORTH TEXAS
Sherman, Texas - Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Special Ranger Troy McKinney, along with the Grayson and Hunt County Sheriffs' Departments, recovered and returned more than $80,000 of stolen property from a Sherman man charged with 11 felony charges.
James Kelly Harris, 44, was arrested Sept. 15 on 11 felony charges, including six counts of burglary, one count of theft and one count of evading a police officer.
The recovered property included 15 dump and utility trailers, 35 saddles, more than 100 pieces of horse tack, a $25,000 carpet-cleaning machine and a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck.
"It's not just cattle that thieves are after on ranches in North Texas, but valuable property as well, " McKinney said. "We've seen a rise in all types of agricultural theft in North Texas, which is why it's so important to keep barns locked and keep track of valuable items everywhere on your property."
"Luckily with the help of the Grayson County and Hunt County Sheriffs' Offices, we were able to recover most of what was stolen and return the property back to the victims," he continued.
TSCRA has 29 Special Rangers stationed strategically throughout Texas and Okla. who work alongside law enforcement agencies to investigate agricultural crimes. All have in-depth knowledge of the cattle industry and are trained in all facets of law enforcement. They are commissioned as Special Rangers by the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 132-year-old trade organization and is the largest livestock association in Texas. TSCRA has more than 15,000 members who manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma. TSCRA provides law enforcement services, livestock inspection, legislative and regulatory advocacy and educational opportunities for its members and the industry.
