Default Ammo Shortage Affecting .22LR Too?

I know about the current ammo shortage, but have not had reason to purchase anything in the last few years. I wanted to buy a brick of 500 .22LR yesterday. No can do. No one has them. 4 places. Only single 50 packs of Remington Thunderbolts for $1.99 or 100 pack of CCI for .$6.99. I picked up one 50 pack of the Remington. Also wanted a 50 pack of 22Mag. $14.00!

I may have to check our local gun shops. Anyone else having trouble finding .22 ammo?

.22 is very hard to find, but try finding .380 if you want a real challenge!

I had the same problem. It just didn't exist for months at a time. The stores said it was coming in, but people were buying it as soon as it hit the shelves. I heard they were then re-selling it at the gun shows, but don't know this for a fact. I finally caught Walmart at the right time for two boxes of Remington .22LR with 550 rounds in them. Unfortunately, this has proven to be the worse ammo that I've ever come across. One day of shooting three different .22's proved beyond any doubt that it's just crap. Misfire after misfire.

I was in Gander Mountain recently and saw that they had a good selection of .22LR available, so I think they are catching up.

I was in our local farm store picking up some feed and noticed a display case full of ammunition--all types. Prices were reasonable and no restrictions, so I bought some 30-06 Springfield ammo. A few days later I checked out Walmart & Bass Pro for the same ammo, just out of curiousity, and they had nothing!

.380 is very hard to find. I can find one box here or there but i am not going to pay those prices for it. When I was working at DSG we would put out a case of ammo and have people buy them on the spot. We had to stop giving out rainchecks because we were not sure when we could get more in.
I have noticed more companies going with a .22 platform because its so much cheaper to shoot. Plus if you have read "world war z" its good for stopping zombies too. BTW its a great fast book to read.

Eddie, I bought the same box of Remington .22LR and found that they not only seem to misfire, but also they don't feed out of my magazine correctly in my bolt action .22 rifle. I've never had any problems with the CCI loads, but these Remingtons are junk. At least one armadillo owes his life to Remington's junky ammo.

Jinman and Eddie,
Are these the Remington Thunderbolts that I mentioned? If so, glad I only bought one box.

I have about 499 things to shoot, so 1 brick should do me just fine. I do not miss very often.

Hee hee. I haven't shot much in the past 30 years. I was on a .22 rifle team in my teens. 50 foot range. Got fairly good at it. Was working on my last bars of sharpshooter or expert(can't remember). I was close to Distinguished Expert when I got kicked out... had a birthday, not bad behavior.

I still have my single shot bolt action rifle in great condition. I'd like to take it out and get used to it again, then teach my daughter's to shoot. We also have a Ruger 10/22 that is a fine plinker and a couple .22 hand guns. Nice High Standard .22LR nine shot revolvers. One has the stubby barrel and the other has a long barrel. The stubby has both the LR and magnum cylinders, that's why I need the magnums.
