Default Re: Supressor for 10/22

The prefered method to suppress a 10/22 Ruger is using a full length suppressor. It will look like a 10/22 with a bull barrel. Most times the original barrel will be cut shorter and depending on ammo, might do away with any supersonic signature. I used to be a Class 3 dealer and have sold a bunch of suppressed .22's. The biggest problem with a 10/22 is going to be bolt noise. I like the 77/22 platform better. Most of the ones I sold were made by AWC. That was a while back and there are a bunch more choices today.

IMHO a nice quite .22 is a blast. You can do some sniping with out all the neighbors wondering what you are shooting at. I have a 77/22 and use only CCI Mini Mag and no problems at all with sonic crack.

Yes, a short is as quiet as it will get. A 10/22 will not cycle them, so you will have to clear each one manually.....no biggie.

it's virtually impossible to completely eliminate action noise on a self loading gun.

I've shot both sub sonic and regular ammo on a supressed gun.. for sure.. the sub sonic is quieter.. but the regular ammo is also VERY quiet wehn supressed.

Illegal? only if you live in one of the states that have no basic human rights. Some states still let their citizens have some rights.. I live in one of those states.

just have to find a dealer with a class 3 FFL, then fill out the 2 page form, get 2 sets of finger prints, have your chief LEO sign the form, send the form in with finger prints and money orders to cover the application and the tax stamp, one copy goes to BATFE, the other to the FBI.. in about 90 days you either get a 'go' or a 'no go' and if a 'go' the paperwork comes back and the FFL dealer xfers the NFA device to you along with the paperwork. It's called a form 4 tax paid transfer. 100% legal since the act came into law in about 1934/1935 ( and amended some 30 or so years ago.. )..

an alternative to CB shorts is Aguila SSS - 60 grain bullet, same overall length as a standard .22LR, but SubSonic. (may or may not cycle in a semi-auto)
Also, if you can find .22LR standard velocity ammo (as opposed to the more common high velocity) it's supposed to be pretty close to sub sonic at close to sea level elevations as well, especially out of short barrels.

I guess this depends on why you want to suppress the sound. For me it would be to get multiple shots on a group of animals that I want to kill. The action really needs to cycle but if it is really noisy then I guess there is no point anyway.

If you run into a problem that the LEO won't sign, you can also use a family trust. This may eliminate transfer to heir problems later.

I don't think you can hunt with a supressed weapon.. nor would I want to hunt with subsonic ammo.

Quite a few options actually.. you can also get a DA or judge from your area to sign, or as you say, find a way to form a SOT ( corporation works fine as well ).. and that precludes the LEO signoff.

Very true, but it seems in my area, the political climate is the same for the mentioned alteratives. In other words if the LEO won't, neither will the others.

Are CBs a type of shorts? Some 22LR instructions say don't shoot shorts. Will they shave lead in the chamber?
Are CBs quiet without a supressor?
