Several, all used and abused.
My brother sent me these pics. He's been kiling allot of snakes at his place, but we're not sure what he's killing. Any ideas?

Eddie

Looks like a bull snake. No rattles, that I see. They can emulate and act like a rattler, coiling and defending their position. Sometimes rattle their tail in the weeds to sound like a rattler.
If so, and you can look at pics from googling, they are harmless. Just grow big, and eat lots of mice and rats. Keep them out of the hen house.

Am not an expert in snake identification, looks like what I call a hog nosed snake....anyway, not poisonous.

Looks like something that I would do that too, also.

Eddie- We have lots of those chicken snakes on our place. I always leave them be as they really help with the rat, mouse population. If they are in the yard, I just use a hoe or shovel and carry them back out to the pasture. They're pretty non-aggressive. I see them all the time and some of them get pretty big. The copperheads don't get the same humane treatment.

We call them Black Rat Snakes...as far as snakes, a good rule of thumb...round pupils = non-poisonous and slit pupils = poisonous. Of course, you would have to get close enough to the business end to make that identification, so, I shoot first and ask questions later.

My guess would be some sort of rat or chicken snake. Based upon the length without a lot of girth.

Is the place wet? I have seen moccasins that color before, their color tends to be different in different enviroments. They would usually have a lot more girth for a snake that length. Also, they tend to be really foul smelling, like a musky fish smell.

I am not sure of what kind of poisinous snakes are in your area but, I don't think it is one.

A picture of the head intact would make the I.D. easier...:D

Great website. Thanks for the link.

This is his first spring living there. He moved in last year in the Fall, and now he's seeing snakes all over the place. He's raising ducks and chickes, which means he's also raising mise and rats, so it makes sense that the snakes will show up to eat the mice.

Both of the snakes in the pictures were just short of five feet in legth, which he thought was allot. From what the websites say, they are still a foot short of being full grown, so I told him that he's going to have to let them go another year so they get to trophy size!!!

Thanks,
Eddie
