I am in the market for a 20 to 26 gun safe. So far I have looked at Mesa, listing for $2019 on sale $999. Cannon $1506 on sale $1104 and Amsec $2350 on sale $1674. All three are 1hour fire rated with 12 gauge and weigh about 600 lbs. All have free replacement if damaged due to fire or burglary.

Does anyone own one of these, or know anything about them? I would appreciate any input. Thanks

I believe if i replaced mine i would go for the punch card lock on front. Mine has a key and combination dial and is good for over 30 min in fire..Btw. if the replace your safe you will pay for freight and delivery?

Sometimes you do get what you pay for, particularly when it comes to a gun safe. I'd stay away from the Cannon. It's a cheap piece of Chinese crap which sells because it's cheaply made and can be sold cheap. Yes, I own one.

Take a look at Misty Morn safes. Made in the USA!

I have a Liberty Lincoln LZ-25 it is rated at 90min

I had them change the lock out to a digital key pad (6 digit) It is Very fast to get into if needed.

Make sure you bolt the safe down very important. Also make sure the door has pins on all sides

The cannon CA23 states that it's made in America. Now their Patriot model, which is their cheaper line, is not made in the US. Which do you have? I think I had better go and actually see these safes rather then buy one online. Thanks

Honestly, I'm not certain, but God forbid if it were made in America.

Do yourself a favor, before you buy the Cannon if you're leaning that way, just ask the guy to take the the back door panel off to take a look at the mechanics of locking system. You'll know right off the bat if that's what you want for the money.

Now, I can honestly say I've never had anyone break into my Cannon (no thief has ever tried), and I've only had a locksmith have to come out one time due to the locking system (first year, no problems since), but the real question is who do you want to keep out of the safe? If it's just your kids, probably no problem with the Cannon.

That said, almost ANY twelve gauge safe can be broken into by brute force with a decent ax (I didn't believe it myself until I saw it with my own eyes). For myself, it just didn't make sense on the next safe purchase to spend 1k to protect a lot more than what I spent on the safe.

Worst case, whatever you buy, by bolting it down, you'll decrease the odds of someone getting in. Doesn't hurt to have added layers of security as well as a safe is only one level of protection.

I have a large cannon fire safe.

it's a big hunk o metal.. make sure you have a few stout friends and a furniture dolly at your place to move it.

I also have a winchester and a couple other brands. IMHO.. for all intents and purposes.. they lok about the same.. have about the same fire rating.. though one was waterproof as well...

check northern tool, gander mountain, dick's sporting goods and tractor supply. I've bought one from each.. they have sales at different times.

sometimes you find a fatboy on sale too.
