This is the gate I waded out in waist deep water, at 6pm, to chain. You can see the log chain about 2 feet from the top board on the right end. The photo was taken at 7pm, after the water went down a foot. 5-26-16 Duck Fence And Gate Water Down One Foot.jpg

This photo shows the fence past the gate bowing. Guess I built a strong fence!5-26-16 Duck Fence Bowing To Water Pressure.jpg

This view is the drive out over the ditch and gully to my back acreage and burn pile.5-26-16 Thur Flood Already Down One Foot.jpg

Friday afternoon high water near barn.5-26-16 Flood.........after going water down from Thur..jpg
This photo shows the small pond full. An hour earlier, water was running around both ends of the dam and over the dam just before the pier. Iron ore and clay dam...............no erosion other then top soil! Guess I know how to build a dam.5-27-16 Small Pond Friday morning.jpg

Friday morning, all the water was gone except the ditch and gully. I pulled the two poles and timber out of the gully. They are my neighbors.5-27-16 Poles and Timber Pulled Out Of My Gully.jpg

Water back up Friday afternoon, at 3pm.5-27-16 Flood after Pulling Poles Up.jpg

Friday afternoon.......bowed fence with debris 4 foot up.5-27-16 Four Foot Duck Fence.jpg

I had to take Luke to work Sat. and Sun. morning. He was able to drive his car out in one foot of water Sunday early evening............after the lake went down 1.5 feet.

Thanks Guys! We're bracing for round two. Today I walked across the gully on my downstream neighbor's property and retrieved all my cedar and cerosote (sp) post scraps. I use them for cross braces on fence ends and corners. Went up to Normangee yesterday and bought home 80 four inch, 7 foot cedar posts and 12 eight inch, 8 foot posts. He was out of six inch, 8 foot posts. Gave me a two dollar discount on the 8 inchers.

Going to replace the neighbors PVC pipe post, woven wire fence with non climb horse fence. I had attached 18 inch high chicken wire to it, to keep the ducks in, but the April storm pulled it and the woven wire down. The woven wire was not knotched into the pvc pipe like the top barb wire is. So between April's storm and this storm, I pulled it up, by hand, a little and added another 18 inch chicken wire above the ground level wire. This storm broke it off the woven wire. I had temp. attached it with ty wraps. I'm also going to design and build steel storm water gates to replace the rebar hammered into the ground where the water flows into the pond. After that I'll enlarge the duck fencing on back side of dam.....................then move half the dam over and enlarge the pond. More water run off into the pond in drought times is the reason. Wanna catch the water flow behind the dam.

This flood showed me lots of hazards in this, but I always get better ideas seeing it all with heavy rain on the land.

Glad to hear the good news that you survived and are doing fine! You always have a positive outlook on any situation and that is very welcome because so many don't, including me.

Now, where did you get those cedar posts in Normangee? :D

Thanks Two Bit! Hey...I always like to see how water reacts with the lay of the land. I found the guy on craigslist years ago. He is approx. 7 miles west of Normangee going out highway 3. Then turn left on 482 and go and go and go like 5 miles on a road that will jar your teeth. Then hang a right were 482 heads back west. Look for the signs...........Cedar Posts. Driveway starts, to the right, where the road kinda ends. I think there is another driveway to the left there. He has Cedar Post signs guiding you all the way from highway 3. His name is Randall. PM me and I will give you his phone number. I think he gets them from Lampassas. He is a couple of dollars higher than Myers Cedar Yard in Lampassas. I think he sales them to McCoy Lumber in Huntsville, also.

Come to think of it,, the only differents between a flood and a drought,, is the rain.. guess we can be thankfull we are not in a drought.. smile and try to stay dry.. Lou
