Decided to have me a pond dug. It is going to be roughly 1/3 to 1/2 acre. Hard to judge till it fills with water.

Equipment used:
Cat E70b excavator.............~15,00lbs
Komatsu PC120 excavator...~26,00lbs
Komatsu D41e Dozer..........~24,000lb

And my ford 5500 and kubota L3400.

Lucky for me I had a couple of neighbors with dump trucks and were in need of a lot of fill. We sent out a total of about 60 loads:thumbsup: The whole area was pretty flat, And I had a culvert that comes under the road. So the only option was straight down and get rid of dirt instead of the typical dig a little and build a dam.

One of the guys unloaded the PC120 on monday evening so I got some shots of my kubota next to it.

The first two here are during day 2. I forgot to load the day 1 pics off my phone.

And these are the end of day two. I was just playing around with the truck down in there:laughing: but it makes for a good size reference

And here is how it looks now after day 3. Took the two of them only 2 and a half days. Unfortunatally I had to work today when they finished up. But I was able to help out a little where I could on the first two days. Like on day one, after their quitting time (3:30) I was able to load the trucks until about 7:30 when we fan out of dirt. And that was about another 15 loads they didnt have to mess with the next morning.

They left me a couple of piles of dirt so I can lay in my overflow culvert once it starts to fill up and I can see where I am going to want it. I have 2 12" culverts feeding the pond, so I will let the water level be a few inches below them and thats where I'll place the overflow.

All in all I am pretty impressed in how efficent they were at this with only two excavators that arent really big. They didnt bring the dozer till the second day, and maybe only used it for an hour or two, and then today to make the final passes and level things out. But their method was impressive, where one guy would dig as far as he could reach, and dump it 180 degrees away as far as he could. Then the other ex would do the same with that pile. Doing that, they moved the dirt a LONG ways in little time:shocked:

Nice job. What is the intended use of your new pond? Watering for domestic animals, recreation, or an added plus in regards to scenery and attracting wildlife. Best wishes.

Oh yea. I am the low spot. Everything around slopes toward that pond. Probabally 10-15 acres of run-off will feed it. The ~5 or so acre field across all drains to a 12" culvert that comes under the road and into the pond. I will have pleanty of water for sure

Mostly recreation. Swimming, Fishing, and relaxing in no particular order.

My dad built a pond twice as big with just one escavator about 6 years ago, then he built another one about the same size is the one in the pic last year. I plan on making a small 20' by 3' pond by my willow tree this year or next year if the test hole stays filled with water, I am hopefull because we have a very high water line here.
