    Default record draught and fireworks.

In Indiana we are in a record drought and right now breaking high temp records for two days in a row. Yet people are threatening to sue the state if they are not allowed to sell or set off their fireworks for the 4th. There is an open burn ban in most of the state, yet people think it'll be ok to use fireworks? What ever happened to common sense and making sure that something you do wont cause harm to your neighbor.

We call it "thinning the herd" down here... Make sure your insurance is up to date, keep your loved ones close and let the ignorant ones play.

Most of the city's around here will not be having any fireworks this year. They are not banned yet, but they are sure advising people not to set them off. or to wet down their area. but of course aerial displays can go quite a distance. I am not even going to set off as much as a ladyfinger firecracker. Although people around me are already setting off fireworks. I have several "gasoline trees" pretty near the house aka. cedar trees.. and those things will burn like they are soaked in gasoline.

Our county has not allowed fireworks for years because of fire danger, except for two shows(at fairgrounds and local lake). And, for those, there are fire engines on standby.

I live out by Lake Lemon in the middle of the woods. My house could use LOTS of TLC, so if the neighbor burned it down from stupidity I would be torn. The house is payed off and insurance it payed up.
I went for a walk in yard last week and it sounded like I was walking on news papers.

And from your experience it sound's pretty common that people are being very nonchalant about the whole burn ban thing. Article in the paper about an area a few miles north that their water tank usually has about 30' of water in it, and because people are trying to keep their grass green it now has less then 4'. They said if they needed it for a fire they'd have a few minutes of water and then they'd be out.
This is going to be lawyers dream in the coming weeks.

    Is it September yet?

Years ago when we lived in the city we had a corner lot with a junior high school behind us. The first Halloween there we had 200-300 kids shooting fireworks at our house. Of course the street side of the house was stacked with dry firewood. Called the cops and they got them to move along. Sure doesn't take much to start a fire with fireworks, happens all too often. People that use them in your dry conditions must be so selfish that their gratification of watching fireworks is more important than the danger they pose.
