    Default Re: Good Boots?

Best Boots I still own, 15 years now, were custom made by a guy in Canada. When I first called him they were $150.00, then a month later when he got my order they were $300.00, today they are $3000.00 and a two year waiting period.

The guy is THE MOST ornery person I have ever dealt with, but having a custom boot made is worth every penny ( not $3,000.00 ) but custom none the less.

If you're on your feet 12-14 hours a day getting the best is worth it.

I'm wearing Chippewa boots and they have performed well and are well made.
I would not wear another pair of boots by "Georgia boot" if they were free.
I've always heard Red Wing were top notch, but more expensive.
There was a company called "Iron Age" that would sell only work and safety shoes or boots. Thier product was made well and would last as long or longer than most other boots so I have purchased many pairs of those. I don't know how or if they are still available.

I should be a test boot driver for boot company's. I wear lace up steel toe boots every day on the farm and if I get a year out of them I am lucky. The guys are right, forget anything made in China, been there, done that and an 6 month lifespan is average.

Currently I am on month 6 on a pair of Georgia Boot Loggers( I thought they were US made when I bought them, but I think they are made in China?). They seem to be wearing ok, but time will tell. If you want waterproof and not sweaty feet the ONLY product is GoreTex. I have worn Goretex since the 80's and have tried others only to be dismally disappointed. They either leak or your feet sweat so much they might as well have leaked.

Locoweed that is a good link and if I was going to spend $150 it would be one of those brands.

Lace up. Not all Redwings are US made. All the Carolinas I saw were China made. Don't know if all of them are china made or not

I have a pair of Carolina loggers. They are the nicest boots I have ever had, but I don't wear them much. I prefer old beat up sneakers...easier to put on...

Redwings are the best that I have ever owned. Redwing isn't what it was a few of years ago. They have a selection made in China now and still have some boots still made in USA. Their USA made boot selection is very small. They are not the company they were a few years ago and doubt that I buy another pair from them.

I've worn safety boots for 20 years. The last couple pair have been Redwing composite toe & I really like them. They are lighter & very comfortable. I wear the lace ups over the ankle for support. And with the composite toe, I don't have to take them off to go through the metal detectors at the nuke plant I have to go to frequently.

My toes must be wide or something cause my toes hit almost every steel toe i wear. Im in the same boat as you i get $130/yr but usually get a pair every other year just cause i hate new boots.

I have found Rocky boots to have the widest toe cap on the market and fit the best. I think they advertise that as well. They look it too, but i like them, have had 2 pairs and they fit comfortable adn break in fast and last pretty good. One pair lasted 3 years this most recent pair is 2 years i think and they came in at or below the limit. The waterproof dosent last 2 years but if you get a new pair every year thats not a big deal. Im a forester so i am in the woods a bit, although im more a desk/truck forester now so im not cruising or marking timber everyday.

Recently went to a Redwing store. The owner actually took the time to size my feet. Splurged and bought a $225 pair. No steel toes, 6in high, made in US. My feet are still thanking me......
