Annual spring flooding.

It's finally spring in the north land, and that means one thing. Flooding!

More to the point, the Roseau Lake, which was drained a couple generations ago, makes it's annual reappearance to remind us of once was. The only problem is, the road going to our farm, just happens to run right through the old lake bed. At the time of these photos, I'm guessing about one mile of road is under water. It will probably remain that way for a few weeks. Meanwhile, we'll just take the long way around. (Add ten miles.)

For those interested, nobody is in danger, as we all live on higher ground. This is just wildlife refuge and some smatterings of farm land... and our road.

Here are the pics. Both ends of the road are pictured, as are various shots of the lake, while it remains. By midsummer, this will look like prairie again.

Glad it's a regular event you're prepared for and it'll turn out ok. Was flooded out of my place for 5 months 2 years ago. Still trying to recover. An experience I wouldn't wish on anyone.

May 1st 2011 waking up my wife to tell her to grab the baby and some clothes cause we gotta go is a day I will never forget and one I never want to re live.
By the grace of God we were safe and our home ended up being spared ( crawl space was the little extra we needed, a slab house we would have been toast)

Yes, those are ducks, geese and coots in the water. The birds in the trees are mostly Red-winged Blackbirds and a few Yellow-headed Blackbirds. They love hanging around the water. Oh yeah, lots of gulls all over the place, too.

That's a very good question. Being a fairly new resident to this part of the county, and with things as crazy busy as they've been, I haven't had a chance to find out. Hmm...

Update! The waters are receding quicker than usual, due mostly to our pr4eexisting drought conditions. We may be able to use the road in an other week or so. First, the grader needs to clean up all the flood debris, as soon as it's dry enough to drive on. At least we can see the other side!
