Morton water softener salt price increase?

I have been using the Morton 'System Saver' salt pellets in my water softener for years. In the last few months it seems prices have jumped about $2/bag. Seems like it went from ~$4per bag to over $6per bag. Other brands don't seem to have increased or increased as much.

Anyone else noticed this?

If Morton mines their salt in the Northeast/Great Lakes region, Old Man Winter is the reason or excuse, however you want to describe it. Road salt and other NaCl based melting products are in high demand.

Home Depot softener salt is at $4.99 - and that is a good price for Canada.

Yeah Home Depot and Lowes is where I first noticed the price increase. At work so not easy to post a picture but when I search HD's site with a local store chosen (83646 zip), Morton Salt Pellets are $6.78/40lb bag while 'Diamond Crystal' brand salt pellets are $4.28/40lb bag. I know Morton mines salt out of the Great Salt Lake but not sure if they actually make these pellets there.

I just paid $3.99 the other day for 40 lbs Diamond Crystal but that was up because I used to pay $3.49.

Over $5 bag at costco tonight. Thought it said 50# bag.
