Tank has the T&P valve. Want to leave it there. Are you saying yours has a second T&P port?

Yes T&P valve on the side and a labeled optional T&P port on the top of the tank.

You could also put a tee on the out line with the thermometer going down into the tank.

I added a gauge on the in line. It has been very handy.
