But? How can anyone prove that something was stolen? You could sell your marked tools, and then claim they were stolen. You might or might not even have been burglarized. I mean, it would be a coincidence that your neighbor bought your marked tools. But if a thief was sharp or did have a good lawyer, the prosecuter might not even bother spending the money and resources to try the case.
