Had a real twilight zone moment this afternoon. I am building my own home in the middle of 60 Acres of woods. I am mixing mortar with an electric mixer using a generator. Guy rides up on a 4-wheeler introduces himself and asks me if I'm going to be running that generator a lot. Well, I told him, I'm building a house and yes I will be using it often. When I asked him why he was interested he said that he had a deer stand on the hill overlooking my homesite and the noise would run off the deer when season started. I told him that the hill and the surrounding 60 ac was my property and that I don't allow people to hunt. In addition he was trespassing. His reply to me was that he had hunted there as a kid and since he had recently moved back to the area he was revisiting his old hunting grounds. He also told me that since he was a native american he could hunt where he wished. (This guy was blond haired and blue eyed) I told him that he was certifiable and if he didn't get off my property now and take his deer stand with him I was at best going to have the law after him and at worst I was going to shoot him. (Since this is rattlesnake country I always wear a pistol as a habit or have it close by). He left saying that he would have the feds and the Bureau of Indian Affairs after me. I told him if I saw him on my property again I wolud shoot first and ask questions later. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif Called the sheriff about the guy and he said to just calm down and if he showed back up try not to shoot him but call and a deputy would come out. Wow I figured with 60 acres in the middle of rural Tennessee I would be further from the nuts /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Well all things considered it's still a great place to be.

I don't think that you can get far enough away to get away for the nuts. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No matter where you go, you are going to run into a few crazies. What a shame that you moved way out there to only find you have one. CYA and call the police if he shows up again. Beware of this nut. He may take a potshot at you just for the fun of it.

Native American my eye!

I don't recall there being a beach boys tribe.

I'm convinced there's loony-toons on the moon. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You don't know how lucky you actually are. After I purchased my land and started to build my home, the adjoining land owner posted my land with no trespassing signs and claimed that he owned about 12 acres of my 15. What ensued was a 3 year dragged out knock em down legal battle. Just because you paid for it, don't believe that some crazy might not claim it to be theirs. When that happens, the local law enforcement people say that it is now a civil matter and that is where it winds up in court. The worse part of this is that after you spend a lot of money defending your ownership, and win, you have no way to collect the costs from the other party. Next time that this Bozo shows up, call the local and State police to drive him off.

Now, now. As it happens, due to my wife's and my own ancestory, my blond blue-eyed son could have registered with the Eastern Tribe of the Cherokee Nation. He would have had to do that before the age of fourteen, I think. Anyway, we both have relatives who maintain affiliation with the Cherokees. They must have been a really friendly people in the old days because a surprising number of folks in the hill country of North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia can claim Cherokee heritage. When the Cherokees started talking about opening their own casino, even more Cherokee "descendants" appeared!

Somewhat similar to how the passenger list expands when thee is an accident involving a public transportation vehicle.

I built my place in the middle of 50 acres, believing like you, that I'd be somewhat insulated from the nut jobs. I moved in on Labor Day weekend 1999, and woke up the morning of Sept 1st to shotgun fire about 100 yds behind my house. I have a big tank back there that is about 2 acres big.

Anyway, they were dove hunters and being a hunter myself, I got dressed and went back to talk to these boys. As you were told, I was informed that they had hunted there for years and they were coming back for the evening hunt that day too. A "discussion" followed where I told them I didn't want to see them back there again, AT ANY TIME dove hunting. They appeared slightly chapped!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sure enough, they showed back up that evening to hunt dove again. I threw them off again, but this time advised them that being a hunter myself of not only birds and small game, but also big game, that I needed to sight in some of my high powered rifles for Elk and Deer season. It just so happened that my tank dam, of that praticular tank, was where I placed my targets and that I'd be sighting in those rifles periodically over the next several mornings and afternoons. If they attempted to come back again, it might be the first time that the dove shot back at them.

Never saw those clowns again but did have the exact same thing come duck season that year. I had the same response and result with those hunters too.

No more trouble EVER around my big tank though! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
