Hi Guys/Gals -
i am about to buy a mahindra 3525, 18' trailer, and 6 implements. over 7500 lbs of stuff. my problem: my truck w/ it's axle ratio and engine is 'rated' for 6300 lbs. it's gmc sierra w/ the 4.8 v8 - it does have the tow/haul mode and will shift smoother with a load in this setting. the trailer will have brakes and i will get the box for the truck. do i need to worry about driving 30 miles or so to the dealer? do i need to borrow a truck to make this happen? your input/advice is appreciated. thanks!! If you're only going to the dealer, why would you have all the implements? You should be able to tow just the machine with no problem. If you are moving this around daily with implements for business, you sound overloaded.

I do not know which implements you have but it would seem to me that it would be difficult to get the tractor and implements on the trailer. Let alone the number of tie downs that you will need. If you haul I think you will need to make a few trips, weight is only one issue, space is the other issue.
Also you say that you are "about to buy" If you are buying that much stuff the dealer should come on out and deliver the whole works to our home for free or course. If the dealer will not deliver all those toys/tools, I would worry about the service that I will get in the future. steve

thanks guys -
i assume they will deliver. they are spoken highly of. as for the implements - i will be hauling a disc and bushhog to a family farm about 30 miles away about three times a year - and maybe a couple trips here or there. nothing constant, and nothing too far. thanks for the info. J |

You didn't mention the year or specs on your truck. I had an 02 Chevy EC 1/2T 4x4 w/ 4.8 and tow rating was 8500#. Maybe you have a smaller S10 size truck.
Even putting 7500# on a trailer weighing about 2K and towing with a 1/2T it would be overweight. A 3/4T should handle the weight with no problem. |

Hi Jon,
I don't want to offend you for sure, but what figure are you looking at to get that number--I know nothing about the GMC 1/2 tons, but my 1995 F150 had a GVWR of 6250 #'s. It can tow about 7100#'s though (which looks like little but is about 14% more). I was thinking manufacturers were rating trucks higher & higher across the board up to the "current" 1/2 tons which are rated up near 4 tons where the 3/4 was back in the late 90's. Is it possible you got that figure off your door jamb sticker & are mistaking the GVWR for the rated towing capacity instead of looking at the trailer table or taking GCWR-actual unloaded truck weight? Again I don't mean to offend, but have had a couple friends confused about this, was myself at one time... ![]() That being said, the transmission type and cooler would be what I'd eye up for the occasional short trip... the cooling capacity is more than likely the weakest link in the drivetrain, and that much over rating is the time you'd smoke your transmission... also take it very easy... that loaded trailer could very easily overpower a truck weighing 1/2 or 2/3 what it does, especially on a bumpy road.
