Another tragic accident involving a youngster working with a team of horses. Farming whether with mechanization or horses/mules is a dangerous business. Our veterinarian retired from a large animal practice in Southern MN, moved north but has continued to work primarily with small animals. He said that he counted 8 of his customers from the previous location having died in farm accidents.

Amish don't seem to worry much about safety. Hardly miss one kid gone out of a dozen. They figure an " accident" was God's will anyways.

You must be a real duck. Feel the same way about gooks?

Amazing how many young people die on farms every year. An old girlfriend of mine had two brothers killed from different accidents before they were 18. Many other stories of similar tragedies.

He is referring to the fact that most Amish believe that whatever happens, wonderful or horrible, is God's will and is what is meant to be, and they will accept it.

And regardless of any religious beliefs, the loss of a child is the worst blow that can occur to anyone. Demeaning such a tragedy with the implication that in a large family loss of a single child would be somehow less of a tragedy is stupid and reminiscent of old Vietnam era idiocy regarding how Asians cared less about individuals. The fact that a religious belief allows an extra coping strategy is irrelevant. Are Christian children mourned less than those of atheist families?

Buickanddeere made a stupid ignorant statement.

That's quite a different perspective. The unnecessary comment being discussed implies that the Amish are careless, calloused and do not value life.
