Default Neighbour did not play it safe, found dead in corn harvestor

We know the family and have bought live stock from them. A sister to Brian died two years ago from cancer.

Terrible accident, there aren't many cornpickers left out there. Mostly combines now, they are much safer.

There was a notice of a guy here in Michigan getting his arm chewed up in a picker, I saw it on the YTMAG forum.

The accident was actually caught in a corn head on a combine. Media types have a corn picker from a corn head just like virtually any piece of construction equipment is a bulldozer and a compactor is a steam roller although the last steam roller was built over 100 years ago.

turns out it was a different family of McConnells that we thought but it's still a tragedy .

Just received an update from two different sources with the same story so it's likely close to the facts.
Brian called his Father from the field and asked him to come to the harvester right away because he had a situation. Brian then called 911. All this while he was drawn and stuck into the header by the legs with the machine still running until it couldn't pull him in any farther.

That would be horrid. I assume if a shoe or pant leg got taken in between the snapping rolls, they would just keep turning, chewing away at whatever is there. Poor kid.

So sorry to hear... please be safe out there, these mechines arnt toys and dont care what they chew up.

Also drives home the point that any day can be your last. We lost my mother in law about a year and a half ago, random car accendent on her way home from work. Make sure the people you care about know it every day.

That story could have been my father in law, got his hand into a real (old) corn picker in '86, nearly lost his finger. He's one lucky SOB.

My condolences to the family and friends.

Same thing happened to my high school shop/aig/safety teacher, chewed off both legs but he lived. He farms near rail road tracks and was hit not once but twice while crossing tracks on his tractor. Must be lucky because Mr. Mitchel is still alive.
