Default It\'s A Miracle

Yesterday I watched the tractor training video on another post and it really got my attention. I guess I really didn't realize just how easy it was to roll a tractor.

Then last evening I was working in my office and the TV was playing in the background. A series was on TV called It's A Miracle and although I really wasn't watching it a segment immediately caught my eye. It was an older tractor and the guy was about to use a post hole digger. I prepared for the worst. As I watched the guy was quickly entangled in the spinning post hole auger. He was lucky as he survived, but not without the loss of an arm.

It again made me realize just how quick accidents can happen with tractors and equipment. Be real careful out there!

PineRidge,

How many people get hurt and say If I would have taken a few more minutes it could have been prevented.

I know I have said that to myself about myself at times, but thank God I have learned or think I have learned.

It sure is tempting to save time, but I always think about the time it takes to make a trip to the ER and then recouperate from an injury (not to mention if your impatience causes someone else to get hurt or killed).
I also try to use this same logic to keep from speeding and avoiding wasted time on the roadside with the friendly traffic officer, but this one is a little tougher to do!

How many times have you been TOO tired to do a job and you went ahead and did it anyway? I know I have, but I am trying to stop that practice. Sometimes the best & safest thing to do is to put the tools down, or get out of the seat, and just sit down with a hot cup of coffee and relax. Sometimes we rush, sometimes we don't pay attention, sometimes we are tired, sometimes . . .

Bob,

Its real HARD to stop working sometimes. Or to NOT START in
the first place. Saturday I went to work on the property. NICE
day for working, kinda brisk, but nice for running the chainsaw.

I got out there and I was tired both mentally and physically.
Started up the tractor. Ran down to the neighbors to talk
with them and check on some things. Played with the neighbors
new puppy and old dog. Talked some more. I really did not
feel like working. Almost 2 hours later, went back to the truck.
Piddled some more. Sat in a chair and ate lunch. Took a nap.

I needed to run the chain saw, swap off the box blade and put
on the back hoe to go did up the stumps.

Simply did not feel like working. Felt REALLY guilty but decided
I was just to tired to do anything. Not safe. So I went home.

Still feel guilty though for not working.

Its hard to stop or to NOT start....

Later,
Dan McCarty

I have been using that as my excuse for my entire life and now you have validated the reason why. I just don't want to get hurt.
