    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

I've seen Permatex dielectric grease up here in a spray can - haven't tried that packaging, so can't say if it works better. I do use Permatex dielectric grease, but not in high volume, so I buy it...

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

Thanks for the 411, and specific recommendations.

One of my gas MPFI engines has over 300k miles on it, and (knock wood) the head has never been off. I'd be seriously irritated with a GDI engine...

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

Some GDI engines do better than others. By the time I get into GDI, I think I'll add a borescope to my tool collection though....

Would I be correct in guessing that you are good at changing oil...

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

I'm not sure that we even have that yet, up here north of the 49'th..... it's now on my Watch List.....

I expect good things from CRC..... have you had a chance/reason to use that already 94 ?

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

Manufacturers get pushed, from a few directions, to deliver long oil-change intervals. It would be interesting to see the details of how manufacturers prioritize the OCI calculations on today's...

Thanks for the PN, and the background on how you use those in the shop.

I won't be the only one expecting to see installation pics  - please !

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

Didn't have much luck searching for Jupiter.... something like this is what you will be using ?

1/4 Inch NPT, 4 CFM Coalescing Filter 6927651 - MSC

With you on the Class 8s, I've seen small...

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

Unfortunately, many "domestic" offerings either now have no stick tranis available at all, or only on high performance models. A shame, IMO..... I enjoy driving stick in a personal vehicle, and if...

    Re: Generator to power electronics?

    Always good practice.

The first small gen I bought recommended running it totally unloaded for 2 minutes before connecting the loads, and after removing the load before shutdown, continuing to run...

    Re: Generator to power electronics?

I'd be inclined to run your Honda inverter gen as is - they are well regulated. I am assuming that your printer is not a power hog - add up the sticker wattages of what you are using, and/or test...

Thanks for the 411.... that does make more sense that the complex vanes are on the cold side. I'd heard of issues with variable vanes not being exercised enough, for some reason that had me thinking...

That is good field data, thanks.

I hope the turbos on the recent generations of small gas DI motors stand up as well as those heavy-truck ones you describe. Would that generation of truck turbo...

    Re: Decarbonizing GDI Engines....

That carbon issue would still scare me with a turbo... thinking of the heavy-deposit BMW pic in this thread. If every last spec of debris is vacuumed out (head not removed), OK then, maybe.
