    My X series has a PTO drive shaft to the mower deck, and direct drive shaft to the tranny. Maybe the newer X series has belt drive, other than the one connecting the deck spindles.

    What I'd do is is disconnect the battery, and check for any wires that are leaking to ground.
    If you have an ohm meter, should be able to do that.
    Don't discount that the new battery may be bad.....

    Then remove or move wires around to see if you can find out which one is shorting out....
