    If you've got pump and oil, why not plum in a cyl. for up and down?

    Would be far more durable than actuator.

    That is a really good suggestion, that way could be direct drive, not sure what that would mean to your torque though.

    Also, I think in the long run you need to be able to pull as hard as you can...

    You are going to have to find a way to really stiffen things up if you want to stop that chain from coming off. My thought would be one of a couple of approaches and there are much better engineers...
