    check the specs of the mfg of the PT. Most PT is/was rated for 40 years of ground contact. I suspect it would be more in this situation, with no bugs, etc.

    make sure you price out the replacement filters with the OE filters. I've found that the OE filters are actually cheaper than the WIX. I also have 2 hydro filters on mine and one has no xref.

    Mine shut off, which takes me a few seconds to determine what happened, and then after about 30 seconds, they go beep beep beep. I'm not sure that's correct, but they work fine other than that.

    CitizenOfThePlanet in the other thread I linked found a melted/shorted wire coming off of the alt. Did you check to see if yours might be the same thing?

    if the manifold just melted the insulation, I doubt that it affected the electrical connection. it probably shorted the alt.

    Be ready for a new/repaired alt.

    when you get that burned wire off, check it out good to see if you can figure why it burned. It's probably a bad crimp, but it would be nice to know to determine if the alt overloaded it.
