I've got a 1643 with Hydro. Before this tractor, I had a 1540 with the Powershuttle (had to sell it in 2009 due to the bad economy).

My 2013 1643 Hydro with FEL is a fine tractor. Outstanding for its size. The longer I go with it, the more I think the 1600 series was the pinnacle of the CUT segment, with JD's 4000 Twenty series...

  8. Re: How would you compare two HST transmissions?

Buying Advice Re: new 4M/4R pics

It's a shame. The 3000 and 4000 Twenties were really, really nice tractors. Especially the 4000 Twenties. I came "this close" to buying one after testing it out. Very impressive machine all the way...

Buying Advice Re: new 4M/4R pics

The new tractor looks like a step backwards compared to the 4000 Twenty series.

Buying Advice Re: new 4M/4R pics

This might not be a popular opinion here, but I think the 4000 Twenty series was far better looking. I came fairly close to purchasing a 4520 before selecting the MF 1643, so it's not like I'm a MF...

    Re: New 1648 owner

Yeah, 800lbs isn't that much. Even my 1643/DL120 could lift that with no problem. These round hay bales can be well over 1,000lbs, though, some as heavy as 1,200lbs. This tractor/loader combo really...

    Re: New 1648 owner

I've practically memorized the 1600 series pamphlet and I have to tell you, while I really like this 1643 (the size is nice as it fits a performance/capability gap between our John Deere 850 and...

    Re: New 1648 owner

How's the loader? Got enough snort for you?

My 1643's DL120 does the job...barely. We move the big round bales with this tractor and sometimes if the bales are extra heavy (1,100-1,200lbs) the...

    Re: Pricing a MF1759 help

Hydro is indeed better for loader work. There is simply no way around that fact. I'm a gear guy and love the Powershuttle on Masseys, but my second MF had a hydro as most of the work we do with the...

I think I was fortunate to have found a new 1643 to buy. Love this machine.

Congrats on the 1648, TSO. Nice tractor.
