Most likely not the most cost effective solution - but I would go with a welded hardware cloth wire ( something like a 2x2 welded wire mesh Wire Mesh - Hardware Cloth Chain link stuff will roll into itself - and you will basically be losing all the qualities (openings) that you are using...
