3840 exhibits power loss after running under load (PTO) for approx 30 minutes. erratic RPMS. No issues dragging a blade around. Tank drained and treated several times. Fuel cap cleaned. filters replaced multiple times. It's getting beyond my capabilities to diagnose. Anyone know a mechanic...

    Radiator cap & Thermostat p/ns?

Gonna change coolant in my 3840 and noticed a small leak in the radiator cap. Might as well change that and thermostat while I'm at it. Anyone have a part number for one or both that I can cross reference at my local parts emporium? Thanks in advance. hp

    3840 power loss

Power loss while bush hogging. Replaced fuel filter and power returned for about 20 minutes. Thought I might have seen water in the bottom of the bowl so now the bowl was dumped and the tank is drained and refueled with fresh. Anything else I should be checking before returning to the field...

Tach on 3840 is jumping around. I suspect the cable. Is there a practical way to lube or should I seriously consider replacement? hp

Accessing Glow plug relay on 3840

Sanity check, how do you access the glow plug relay on a 3840, lower panel under the steering column? I have something intermittent between the fuse block and instrument cluster. Tapping either disrupts or fixes the circuit. Cleaned the fuse holder to no avail. Thanks in advance. hp

Oil & Fuel  Oil Drain 3840

I hate to be dyslexic. None of the manuals seem to accurately picture where the oil pan drain is. Rather safe than sorry. Thought I'd verify/question here. The oil pan seems to be a "U" shaped design that straddles the the front axle drive shaft? One drain plug on either side of the "U"...

Side Plug Allen Key, Woods BB72

Anyone happen to know what size allen key Woods uses on the BB72. Would like to top off the gearbox and would prefer to take the guess work out of the equation. The manual mysteriously leaves the plug off of the pictorials and parts index. tia hp

    Dealer  Dealer Kudos (Mid Atlantic)

Big thumbs up to Big Sky Equipment, based out of Clearspring, MD. The 3840 finally crossed the 50hr tick and Don Long shows up with the biggest Mack truck mounted crane I've ever seen. Three hours later he'd gone over the green machine from the loader to the 3pt, changed all the fluids and...

    540...Let er' rip?

I've just mated a Woods 72" BrushBull to a new Montana 3840 and noticed that the mower's manual recommends engaging the PTO at less than 540 and slowly bring RPM's up appropriately. The tractor's "korenglish" instructions basically say 540 RPM and engage warp drive... Anyone care to make a...

    Cold Weather Steerig

The Alberta Clipper finally hit Maryland along with a reasonable amount of snow. I found myself on my 3840 with the early AM temp at 6 degrees f. Started right up on first try. Steering was another issue. It took about 10 min for the steering hydraulics to loosen up, albeit with a bit of...

    3840 Inhouse

It has finally arrived. The dealer spent 90 min here reviewing procedures and features. He'll be back in 50hrs to do the service and review additional maintenance issues. He warned me the manual is written in "Korenglish" I celebrated by grading the driveway. I just noticed one photo is...

    Drivers test tomorrow

After a year of procrastinating I'm going to push some dirt around tomorrow. I'll hop on a 3040 and a 3840, both w/new style FEL. I'll be dragging a 72" bush hog up and down hills in real life. Will I need or enjoy the extra hp of the 3840? I'll be an early adopter here in western MD. HowardP

Spent a lot of time with the local Montana dealership at the local ag fair this evening. The dealer also offered to throw in a couple of minor items including free deliver (55mi)...

    Greetings from Compact Wannabe

New to the forum. Greetings! I've been maintaining a 7 acre horse property for 22 years with vintage MF-65/MF-165. My primary tasks are gravel road maintenance (.5mi) brush cutting and snow removal. I'm tiring of being a vintage tractor mechanic and have been lusting after modern technology...
