Hi All

With the thread on uses for a boom pole, thought I would add this in a new thread.

Always looking for attachments for the DF. I came across this that I couldn't resist. I was looking for something similar to make or buy. The guy who was selling it is a semi retired metal fabricator. He made about 10 of these that he sold about 12 yrs ago. He kept this one but now has other things that would do the same job. His name was Moffat as the label on the crane shows. A fantastic attachment!. For the one cylinder plugs into one set of remotes . With the new hyd. top link I just got plugs to the other making it very versatile. My remote valves are fairly sensitive so you can feather it quite gently. I cleaned up the little bit of rust and gave it a repaint. He kept the cylinder retracted so it was in perfect shape. With the boom extended on the 3 pt it could reach about 18'. I may try to adapt it to the FEL frame as well giving another 6-8 feet of reach. ** I do of course realize that i will use the necessary counter balance weight in either setup depending on what I am lifting. As far as capcity, I didn't get a chance to lift anything really heavy, but he tells me the front wheels of his tractor would lift without showing any strain. I assume the tractor size and the 3pt capacity would determine that.

Enjoy Dave

Sweet, looks great and works great... Nice! Thats a serious motor picker...

Neat idea. Looks like you need weight or filled R4's on the rear. A little tippy looking for me, but I imagine it's a stationary tool, not made for driving while things are attached.
Cherry picker for sure!

I think if positioning something into place it would be stationary. If you were moving something heavy you would keep it low with proper counterweight and maybe even a wider stance. All depends on how you may use it.

Thanks Dave

Nice job on the crane.

What is you lifting capacity on the 3pt? There is way to figure the lifting capacity at any point on the crane but that is only if the steel is sized for the load. Does anyone know how to figure the lifting weight, with the known push force of the cylinder, and known hinge point distance. Is it just ratio and proportion computation?

thanks JJ.

I wish I could have taken design/build credit, but it is a nicely designed unit. My 3pt lift capacity is about 1650 #'s . I will probably never test with a large load but it would be nice to know. I will try to contact the builder and see.

Thanks,

I thought it was a great score. I couldn't even replace the cylinder for what I paid for it.

Found this.

The EXB-060 KRANE
The EXB-060 Krane is specifically designed for compact tractors with 25-60 horsepower and is capable of lifting up to 2,500lbs on the forks and 1,200 to 2500lbs on the lift arm. The revolutionary design combines versatile forks with a telescope arm lift for a tool you'll use all around your farm. The EXB-060 also is free standing for easy hook-up, and features a wheel assist kit for stable lifting power on smaller tractors.

Nice tool. Not something you would probably use alot, but it certainly would do the job nicely for when you did need it.
It appears as though the boom will telescope. If it does, it probably wouldn't be that difficult to modify it with a hydraulic cylinder to extend it and retract it. I am sure there would be limitations for distance / weight etc. but it would add another dimension to the usability of it.
all in all, a great find !

That looks like a terrific tool when used with caution. I just looked at it and thought how useful if could be if it had one added feature. If the base was mounted on a lazy susan affair so it could rotate, you would have a rotating davit. It would have to be something like the pivot for a rear angle blade. That, of course, would also make it even more dangerous and require thoughtful use and planning to keep the tractor off it's side. Slide out extendable outriggers might be required.

Hi ,
I was thinking that as well. For now I'll see how it works and its limitations. I was thinking for adapting to a trailer for moving logs etc. But i don't want to get too far ahead just yet.

Yes it does telescope as well. About the length of the main part- another 5' or so. Modifying with a cylinder would be ok but I would have to use one of my remotes to go to another valve (maybe joystick). That would give the ultimate versatility not to mention more fun.
