Thanks everyone. I have another question. What does "JIC" actually stand for?

I can't seem to find out what it means? And I'm new to all this hydraulic stuff.

JIS is a whole nother animal. It's a real oddball. If memory serves me correctly, Allis-Chalmers made in Romania use them as do some others. DHH has a nice ID chart on their website. Easy way to tell ORB is to see if it screws into a female JIC. They are the same thread.

Thanks. I just realized I got the 1/2" hoses with NPT ends instead of the JIC ends. So I was looking around on tractorsupply's website and found this adapter. It's says it's a ORB to Female pipe adapter. But doesn't say NPT.

So is this the one I need for my NPT hoses? Swivel Adapter, 1/2 in. Male O-Ring Boss x 1/2 in. Female Pipe Swivel - 1818626 | Tractor Supply Company

Thanks

Chad

If this helps understand the fitting you are asking about, the hoses are all NPT ends into swivel fittings.

JIS

Japanese Industrial Standard: This coupling looks similar to our MJ and FJX fittings. There are two major differences - the threads are BSP and the seat angle is only 30-degrees instead of 37-degrees.

:mur::mur: Why oh why can we not have a single world standard... I'm a millwright and I find it confusing, God help us all.

Gary, in your picture, the male pipe thread seals in the upper part of the fitting, but what seals the swivel portion? I assume it's an "adjustment while installing" kind of swivel, not meant to pivot during operation?

"single world standard" ...common currency....UN...Seems no mater what, the world can't get on the same page. Everyone has their "nationalistic" fittings. The UK, and all associated (most of Asia) adopted British threads, BTP, BSPP, JIS. The US, and North America started with NPT, then , SAE, JIC, ORB, all based on pipe or sae thread sizes. Europe went metric, with France using flare, Germany using DIN.

Think of the fun of working in the US, trying to install an Irish built attachment on a German built machine :^p it's enough to make one go screaming into the woods

These type of swivel fittings allow you to set the hose to the direction you need and then tighten down. Once they are tightened, they don't move. They are not a "live" swivel that will move during operation.
