Is this thread about the Chevy Volt or about politics?

I'd say the Volt and politics and Obama are pretty well intertwined.

I wonder if Obama drives a volt? I wonder if he actually has a drivers license?

Not sure you understand what politics means.

I understand precisely what politics means, to me. But that's the problem, politics means something different to everyone, which is likely why the government is such a mess.

Discussing this is not politics, no one has mentioned a political party or asked you to vote a certain way or for a person.

Discussing the Chevy Volt or General Motors is not politics, but mentioning President Obama or other political figures is. When a political figure is named, either in a positive or negative way, it's no different than asking someone to vote for or against them.

Look, I don't like Obama either, but is he any worse than other politicians? That's a rhetorical question by the way, because I know the answers will vary, to say the least.

Depends on your frame of reference. Chicago politics has a unique reputation of its own.

Obama & Biden are a Kiss of Death to almost every company they visit.

Bummer said "IN 5 Years He would buy a Volt".

Biden visits a Window Mfg. The next week the co lays off 1,500 workers.

There are (I may have lost count) 17 Green Company's going out of business and all but 1 were given Millions or Billions by Obama. Most of them were visited by Obama or Biden. AM sure it is only a coincidence, but all of those company's contributed or bundled for Obama. Not a chance that would be Crony Capitalism, with bummers sterling record of honesty.

No one was tortured, that is clear. Water boarding is not torture, and could still be used today. There is a military definition of torture and water boarding doesn't met the definition.

OLC Memos Define Official Waterboarding Procedure | waterboarding.org
waterboarding.org | "His sufferings must be that of a man who is drowning, but cannot drown." -Lt. Grover Flint, Philippine-American War
In 2007 it was reported that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was using waterboarding on extrajudicial prisoners and that the Department of Justice had authorized the procedure,[7][8] even though the United States government hanged Japanese soldiers for waterboarding US prisoners of war in World War II

I guess it just depends on who is pouring the water.
I believe if you waterboarded one of your children you would go to jail for a very long time.

Each President has his own mistakes and failings. What I see in the political comments here is a long term memory block to anything before 2009.

Yep one things about small cars they sure do save gas. BUT the other thing no one ever considers the damage during a crash.

100510.hwy34mp16.2.sized.jpg

NOTE the other vehicle in this picture......

My wife was driving a POS gas saver till I looked at it one day and wondered " how would this car do in a head on" , that week I sold it for a huge loss. I bought a large gas GUZZLER for for her the next day. About six months later she was hit head on by a drunk driver. I rolled up on the scene and she didn't have a scratch on her.

Nope - I will pay through the nose for gas all day long. I wouldn't trade saving any amount of money for safety.

By the way what is a leg or life going for these days. Anyone here willing to save $30K for their loved one...anyone, come on raise your hand. How about a leg, arm, kidney, brain damage, anyone willing to give up a leg for 30K?

Several factors contribute to crash safety, not just size. Maneuverability, distance inside the vehicle until a moving body meets an obstacle, etc. You don't need a gas guzzler to be safe. It's about crumple zones and G forces until impact. That's what Mercedes proved and why virtually every manufacturer today incorporates crumple zones. You can't always tell from a crash what has happened.

Electric cars are the future. Less moving parts and a greater field of development, discovery and invention. Fossil fuels are the past, you might as well go back to whale oil and candles.

I always find it funny that some people buck the future so adamantly. Did we stop running fossil fuels when we found out that smog was causing severe health problems? Did we stop buying gas cars when Ford Pintos were blowing up on impact? Did we stop buying gas cars when they were feeding the coffers of our enemies? No. But some people here are ready to see electrics stop because of problems.
What does that tell you? It tells you that a lot of people are terribly afraid of change and will cling to the past regardless of its futility.

By the way the oil companies, you know the ones dragging you around by ring through your nose, just love you and your inability to change.

Electric cars will bury fossil fuel cars once the bugs are worked out. My hat goes off to Nissan and the Leaf, Ford and the Focus and yes Chevy and the Volt. We need more courage and less myopic middle road fear that seems to envelop to many people and companies today. Where's the thinking that made this country great? If you ever want to see this country come back you better wake up to your fear of change.

And this thread is still open why? It has become less and less about a car and more about politics...Geez, the title reeks of brand bashing. Let's get back to tow capacities and horsepower, you know, important things....

The Chevy Volt is in production via fiat of Obama. Would have been cancelled long ago by a privatly owned company. The company is owned by the US. Discussing this is not politics, no one has mentioned a political party or asked you to vote a certain way or for a person. Not sure you understand what politics means. Discussing actions by the President of the USA is not political.

Yes, Obama is much worse. Trying to excuse bad behavior by one party because it may nt be the worst behavior is wrong on it's face. But, Obama is the wort of the worst.

Please review houstonscott's post above again. It hits it dead on.

The incentive to owning an electric car is lost on the American citizen. We don't have the consistantly high priced gasoline that other countrys have.
I hear people saying produce more oil. We are producing more oil and exporting more refined fuel than any year since 1949. We have an excess of fuel. Oil is a free market commodity. I hear people say that President should do something about the fuel prices.
If the President was able to control fuel prices and set prices we would yell "socialism". Oh. Wait I have heard that. I guess the "socialism" tag only applies to something that benefits other people.
The industrialized countrys are investing in electric and alternative fuel car research and incentives. The U.S. $2.4 billion, China $15 billion other countrys also investing high amounts of money in infrastructure and R&D.

During the 1890's and early part of last century the cars and trucks on the road were electric. Most all delivery vehicles were powered by battery.

Henry Fords' wife only drove electric cars.
