GC2410 50 hr. service and synthetic fluids

Frustration is felt on both sides. How many times have you heard or read something and it turned out to be wrong. Just because someone says something does not make it right. My concern was that a manufacture says to use a certain type of fluid and others are saying to use something entirely different with the only explanation being that it is better. When the nice gentlemen stated it was purely for convenience (aka: logistics in manufacturing) that makes sense. Life has taught me to ask the same question many times to different people to get the right answer. I got that on this forum. Thank you and Merry Christmas

One thing I would not change they type of is the coolant. MF recommends an ethylene glycol based coolant, and I have found a diesel coolant at Canadian tire that is ethylene glycol based. Do not want to take a chance on some of the other coolants out there. Changing sooner will not bother me.

The nice gentleman who stated that is purely for convenience, has no way of knowing if that is the true reason, it is strictly a matter of opinion.

While most of us agree, (including me), that is why they do it. It is not a known fact, it is speculation.

So, if you were truly looking for verification, your acceptance of this statement, in lieu of the information I gave you, is both frustrating and puzzling.

Since you are new here, I will tell you we do not just make up recommendations and pass them out, they are based on fact, and experience. And, we use them on our tractors.

In the rare event a recommendation is based on speculation, we tell you that.

As I explained to you, in some applications these fluids are interchangeable. This is one of them.

Since you found my recommendation questionable, here are real facts to back it up: My manual, (from Massey Ferguson), provides for the option to use gear lube in the identical front axle on my tractor. Furthermore, a member who had a gear failure, also took this question to MF directly, and they again approved the use of gear lube in the axle.

The reality, (not opinion), is, MF puts the hydraulic oil in there, because it is sufficient to do the job.

This is not something really worth obsessing over.

The more I pry the more I get. That info was excellent. I appreciate the fact you responded with more info that I am looking for. A clear expalnation is priceless. My manual clearly sates Permatran III only. That is why I prod and pry for info. Sorry for the bother . Thanks again

SAE 5w-30 (ATH) (Trans/Diff. Housing and Front Axle equals 17 US qts.
$136).

3). MF2360 Snowblower Gearbox: AGMA 5EP, SAE 80w-90 gear oil.
Plan to use Amsoil Syn. Gear Lube SAE 80-90 (unknown amount,
1 US qt.equals $9.20).

4). Grease Fittings: MF M-1105 lithium base grease No. 2.
Using Valvoline Syn Power, NGLI #2 GC-LB Lithium Complex EP
Grease has moly-fortified ingredients to increase
film strength, lubricates at temperatures ranging from -40F to 400F
(14.1oz tube at Napa equals $5.99).

5). Engine Coolant: 50/50 mixture ethylene glycol and water (-30F).
Plan to use Zerex Original Green Antifreeze/Coolant (4.9 US qts
at a 55/45 mixture equals -34F).

6). I have not researched the Amsoil Filters so I so not know yet if I will use
them or Napa, orthe MF Filters.
(MF oil filter is $11.50 / MF trans filter is $26.62)
I would like your advise regarding the oil and
transmission filter products .

Just an update on the fluids I am using in my GC2410, :thumbsup:.

1.) For my next engine oil and filter change, I will be switching to the Amsoil Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil. I believe this will be better for my tractor instead of the Amsoil Synthetic 10W-30/SAE 30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil that I am currently using because of our extreme cold winter weather.

2.) I am using the Amsoil Synthetic Tractor Hydraulic/Transmission Oil SAE 5W-30 (ATH) for the transmission housing. For the front axle I did end up using the Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 80W-90 (AGL).

3.) For the MF 2360 snowblower gearbox I am using the Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 80W-90 (AGL).

4.) I am using the Valvoline SynPower grease.

5.) The engine coolant: I am using the Napa Brand RTU 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and also change this fluid each year.

6.) I have only used the MF hyd/trans filter and the MF engine oil filter.

I hope this helps others and does not add any additional confusion, :confused2: :confused2: :confused2:.

Checked my front axle and found it almost empty from the factory. i should have listened to others and checked it from the start. So the majority say the gear oil is better. What bran and whay voscoscity? Also-how full, right to I fill it up?

I am using Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube SAE 80W-90 (AGL) and my owners manual states that the capacity is 4.2 US quarts, :thumbsup:. I just followed my owners manual instructions on page 57 that explains how to check and also change the front axle oil, :licking:. Hope this helps you, KC
