2002 gx345 wont crank?

First time poster here.

I just bought a house and got the GX345 with it- so I dont have any history on it. The lady told me that the clutch on the brake pedal needs adjusted. Its got about 44hrs on it.

I was able to get this machine to start a few times in the past two months. It can be a bit finicky with many key turns and no crank. Now after a few days and 20-30 minutes of trying I cant get it to start at all.

I checked the switch @ brake pedal with a digital multimeter (DMM) and its making contact. Just to be safe I jumped it. I also checked the seat switch and again it has contact. I also checked the voltage when hitting the key and its a constant 12.4V

There is no click, no nadda. Just silence.

Ideas?

Check out the starter solenoid maybe it isn't working right

I gave it a few taps with a wrench. I will see if its getting voltage tonight.

I see this was a fairly expensive tractor and figure it should last a lifetime if taken care of properly. So Im prepared to invest in it to a point. I bought a plow for it and having issues with getting it to fit right. Now Im having these issues with the starting or lack of... lol. I also plan to buy the bagger with power blower.

Is there a safety switch for engaging the mower deck?

Did you remove and clean both ends of both battery cables? Take the negative off first and put it on last.

That tractor new would of prolly cost around u or I grand and it should last at least 1500 hrs if not 2500-3000 hours with no major issues.

Well I cleaned the battery cables and nadda thing. The lights come on but I cant even here the solenoid engage. It would do the same thing and just the right foot placement and poof it would crank. However if it was a quick key bump it wouldnt start. Hold foot same spot never moving it and hit key again and no start.

Have you checked power on the starter solenoid with the key in the cranking posistion? To make sure the solenoid is getting signal power from the key? Because if it is getting power then you either have a ground issue or there is something wrong with the starter or solenoid. Your power should leave the key switch and go through all the safety switched then to the starter solenoid. So if the power is at the solenoid signal terminal then you can eliminate the rest of the starting circuit.

there is an ignition module on that model, under the dash, part of the key switch when you
order it i believe. that has relays in it that are part of the start circuit, and they can be
known to go bad. might be another place to try tapping as you try starting and see
if you get any results doing that.

Here's something you can do now and if it works. If the GX345 won't start. Take a screwdriver...the handle part and tap on the TDM (time delay module). It is located on the left side of the engine near the bottom and rear that bolted to the frame. It is a black round with several wires coming from it. Tap it likely and see the tractor starts. If so, you need a new one. Cost about $21.00 at the JD dealer or order one from a seller on ebay.

Majority of the JD345 will not start should the "time delay module" goes bad. Most of the time you can "tap" on it and it will allow the engine to start, and other times it won't work. They can go bad with a few hours on the tractor or it may takes years for it to go south.

Hmmm I will give this a try. Gearing up for some more snow in my area and I would LOVE to be able to use this machine to clear it out.
