Well, i went out to build another chicken pen today, as the wife is getting some silkies she doesn't want mixed with the rest of the heinz-57 chickens we have .. so i loaded up all my tools and lumber into my yerf-dog CUV.. went out.. it rained on me a bit.. but I had little time.. so had to finish. Got finished and was heading back to drop the excess lumber off at my stockpile and then take the tools to the barn. Half way betweent he stockpile and the barn, I heard the drivers sdie front tire rubbing on the fender... " Now what I figured! " crawl into the weeds and look up.. sure enough.. bolt holding lower control ? arm/ frame tot he chassie is no where to be seen. Wheel is supported only by top shock mount and steering arm... GREAT.
So I go walk and get the farm jack and a jack stand to get the pressure off that steering arm, as the steering box is only the sixe of my fist.. and I don't figure it will take much punishment. Once it was jacked up, I lined it all up with a screwdriver.. thankfully nothing was broke. Now as to where to get the bolt / pin to fix it. It is under warranty thru TSC.. but Yerfdog is OOB/ bankrupt as I hear..
I decide to start walking back tot he lumber stockpile.. and there it is.. the bolt and washer.. alas no nut. Then i see it.. it a darn Fine thread job... great.. I keep virtually -0- fine thread hardware on hand....
So there I was rummaging thru all my bolt bins and part bins with the bolt in my hand.. desperately trying ever fine thread I could find... Then I spy a box of used ford 8N lugnuts... what do you know.. PERFECT match!
A few minutes with a wrench and a spare lock asher and the cuv was back up and running.. sporting a ford 8N lugnut now holding that arm in place. Go figure!
